If you sincerely know Tamala Clarice than you know, I, myself am truly a casual girl. If you’ve ever had the opportunity to assist under a fashion stylist or if you are a fashion stylist yourself this is normally what type of attire you’d wear or of course in leisurewear. Even when a stylist is doing pulls or returns you must be as comfortable as possible because there is a lot of physical work that takes place, like carrying heavy garment bags and being on set of multiple hours. Blazers are one of those staple pieces of clothing that are a lot more versatile than people give it credit for. Easily matched with formal outfits and an endless array of Oxford shirts, it's something that's ideal for smarter occasions, but it also works great with a lot of casual pieces as well. Blazer and jeans or sweatpants work great together and are a go-to combination when creating a casual, yet put together look. Actually with this look, I have on two blazers. One plaid and one black. I paired it with a turtle neck which is also now the ultimate trendy piece. Makes sense that something as equally versatile as a slim turtleneck will work just as well with a blazer. Of course, there are some things you should probably keep in mind before you start throwing any random shirt on with any old blazer, but these are mainly things that you need to remember for any outfit - fit, color, pattern and length. That’s why I paired these super cute plaid Harlem shorts. I am not suggesting you throw on any kind of lounge wear, but some slim fitting black joggers in a thick cotton material, alongside your blazer, can be a surprisingly good combination. Pair it with your favorite kicks and your good to go for a long stylist busy day. Be picky when selecting your shoe choice, anything that's too chunky will disrupt the narrow look of the outfit. Keep them well fitted, but experiment with styles.
Shang Hi
There was so much inspiration and brainstorming put into this look, not only that it wasn’t a better way to bring in the new year of 2019 without a banger! I’ve always been inspired by Chinese style and fashion. I like the idea of creating balance from juxtaposition, like mixing unexpected shapes and fabrics. Chinese fabric such as traditional Chinese floral print pattern or floral brocade jacquard fabric can be a work of art with a simple touch of correct styling. I was so inspired by sheer Chinese fabric and the ever popular net dress that made its way to the fashion scene in the 70s and is now making a comeback in the high fashion world, it’s getting more and more daring. But of course, there are tons of ways to make it wearable. One or two, wear a slip dress underneath or even short-spanks in which you can choose to go for a mini or a maxi. With see-through details and long sleeve black and white trims this creation features details that created a much defined dimension, resulting to a very sexy yet elegant look. This look can be worn at any upscale after 5 occasion or cocktail parties for social networking. Covering everything from the Chinese hair bangs to beauty tips. Compliment and complete your look with a bold red lip and nothing less than a 6 inch pump and you’re the highlight of the night!
Gym or Brunch
Who said you can’t wear sweats outside the house? They are so trendy and versatile you can literally trade any outfit for a sweat outfit and pull it off any and everywhere. It’s all crystal clear to me: they have become such a casual staple, courtesy of those athleisure trends, and of the 80s comeback that it’s the go-to-outfit for 1) running errands, 2) going shopping, 3) brunch, or 4) any cool casual style you wanna pull off one day. Even if you’re not staying home or just going to the gym. White, black and red are the easiest and most color pop pieces to go to. Today was a travel day for me so I decided to still be dope and trendy yet comfy. The sweats look has been happening for a while, but I always thought it might be just a fad, you know? But no. Sweats outfits are here to stay.
Polka
I’m a huge fan of mixing patterns and as summer comes to end there is no better way to play with color and scale. Polka Dot pattern is normally associated with vintage-inspired clothes that can come off as cheesy, but it doesn’t have to look that way if you choose wisely. Keep it current with a fun wrap dress or trendy halter top does the trick. Look for simple shapes like well-cut pants or a-line skirt to make a basic feel fresh again. My polka dot A-Line skirt was perfect for a fellow brunch with a few other fellow stylist. The weather was breezy and warm so the flow of my skirt complimented perfectly. Now, to spice things up I paired it with stripe grey and black crop bustier which are super trendy, feminine and perfect for pairing with summer maxi skirts, shorts or wide leg pants. I hope this look inspires you just as much.
Donna Tella
Whats a better way to bring in your birthday? I couldn't let today pass without doing something I love. For all ladies, the hardest debate is choosing the perfect birthday outfit. You never know how glammed up you want to be. For me, comfort and chic was my go-to decision for my birthday this year. In 1965, Life magazine ran a fashion spread featuring Edie Sedgwick in which they dubbed her: "the girl with the black tights." These tights were part of the poor-little-rich-girl look for most days at Andy Warhol's Factory, and were the first choice for dancers, like myself. Everybody can wear tights as pants, you just have to wear them the correct way, which is why I chose the "tight-pants". Super comfortable and sexy. Shows off every curve. To add some spice I styled it with my gold and black print silk top tucked-in with my double buckle western belt. Accessoriize with A nice pointy toe pump with a mini crossbody bag and your good to go. I hope your birthday outfit was a fun as mines.
Animal Print
Where do I begin? There are so many ways to rock animal print. What I love most about this trend is that these patterns are made up of neutral colors, so you can really mix things up when it comes to styling. Pair with pops of color, other patterns, or go more monochrome. I mean literally anything goes. One thing I love about this look is that it is so versatile. This oversize cheetah print cardigan can be easily transformed into so many ways. You can wear it closed or unbutton, as a sweater dress and even **cringe** your sweater to wear with a pair of shorts. Which is exactly the route I look. Pairing my red, black and white leather shoes made this outfit very understated and effortless. Especially with fall approaching tights under your skirts and shorts are definitely comfy and chic. To add finishing touches I complemented my look with cheetah print eye-wear, black pointy toes heels and gold jewelry.
Modern Vintage
Cat eye sunglasses have made there way back to 2018 and this time there here for good. The original 50s Cat Eye sunglasses style was thinner and angular, with a big swoop look on the temple meant to accentuate the cheekbones. The frames were produced for optical glasses until in 1961 when Audrey Hepburn wore a pair of cat’s eye sunglasses in the “Breakfast at Tiffany”. The sunglasses she wore were called the “Manhattan”. Nowadays, cat eye sunglasses are more rounded and better suited for many different face shapes. And the best part is that cat eye sunglasses can come in prescription as well! I decided to go for the all white cat eye sunglasses. The color was super easy to match with my all white vintage corset paired with with my oversize blazer. Definitely made the look very modern. My black Y-Project pants are super trendy, they show a little skin to spice things up. I was a little in decisive about my shoes but adding my black and white snake skin print mules worked out perfectly.
Black Out
My first thought after i picked my outfit was, isn't it to hot to wear all black? But hey what the heck. Fashion is Fashion and Wardrobe has no rules. To jazz up an all-basic outfit, simply pile on the accouterments. The details on an outfit are very important. My "Off-White" long sleeve shirt complimented my all black bottoms, but they weren't just any pair of all black bottoms. They're Stirrups! Stirrup pants are back and they are officially trendy this year. We either think of it as something very outdated or plainly a fashion mistake. This year is bound for second chances and what used to be the 80’s favorite workout clothing is making a huge comeback this summer 2018. I love how black allows you to go a little over-the-top with your ensemble, my cheetah print mule pumps gave the ultimate accent. To keep your streetwear looking fresh and dated add your favorite cross-body bag and a dope fitted cap to top your look off.
FriYAY
Are sweatshirts and hoodies a thing now? They come in a number of styles, ranging from smart pullover jumpers to casual zip-up hoodies and everything in between. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that they can accommodate almost any occasion, from lounging on the sofa to effortless smart-casual outfits that are perfect for social outings. One of the more common uses of the classic sweatshirt is the casual look. Like pairing it with a turtleneck, a step up from it’s predecessor of lax sweatpants and cozy jumpers, the more socially ‘appropriate’ casual wear instead consists of chinos, jeans and trousers. Speaking of trousers, I decided to style mines with my 3 sided - stripe pants. It kept the look more casual yet stylish. Rather than wearing a pair of tight skinny jeans. My circle shades and fanny pack are the newest and latest trend, the fresh modern approach give them both such a classic look. Lastly, feel free to add sneakers or heels with your trousers.
Beret Black
Let's be French! Are you thinking about trying a beret this weekend? There are so many color options out there to choose from, and at a variety of price points. Pull your hair back, to keep it soft. It's already a statement piece so be sure to make the rest of your look classic. I really wanted to pair a waist belt with a solid all black knit body-con dress, something simple yet sophisticated. I was really particular with the length of my dress this time, but It aligned perfectly right above my mesh boots. I complimented my outfit with a all black pair of diamond earrings, cat women shades and a patent leather bag.
Vinyl Vibes
Whether you’re ready for the vinyl trend or not, it’s already here so you might as well give it a try. When it comes to wearing vinyl you simply need to pick and choose the right piece that best aligns with your style. Keep it casual by layering it with this season's must have coat, The Plaid Trench Coat! This coat is great for a few reasons. First, the menswear inspiration gives it that chic Tomboy vibe. Second, it has a retro look and feel that somehow translates so well to modern-day. Last, the plaid print is on point. There's so many different ways to wear this coat, I spiced it up with my olive green boot-pants. Talk about sexy and comfort all in one package.
Valentine Vogue
Now we all know Valentine's Day is the day to get sexy and show those curves. Whether you're going out with your best friends or on a date with your boo, its pretty natural to dress up. But why not be different and be dope?! Now don't get me wrong, red is definitely that go to color for this particular holiday which is why I gravitated towards my red fringe and white button down collar shirt. Its appropriate for all ages. Fringes can look polished, chic, sporty. glam, edgy and will always have a bohemian touch to them. I always say the shoes set the tone for the whole look so I paired this top with my black patent platform kicks and all black high-waist disco pants. Since black was the next best thing, I also accesorized this look with my all black leather cap and trench coat. Oh, and lets not forget about adding that red bag!
Pussy Bow
The Pussy Bow Blouse gives you the opportunity to try out a whole range of fabrics. Perfect in rayon, chiffon and lightweight silks and crepes, she works amazingly in anything light and drapey. Pussy Bow's most definitely comes in long sleeve and short sleeves. To complete my look with my off-white and gold print top, a good jumpsuit was a definite closet must-have. Dressed up or down, this piece is always in style and so simple when you're crunched for time or looking to simplify your look. They come in so many colors and fun prints. My red floral wide leg jumper added finishing touches to my chestnut boots, which was also perfect for the winter.
Friendly Fringe
I had the pleasure to attend Fashion Bomb Daily event this weekend held in ATL and while choosing a look it was so much fun. As soon as I saw this all black fringe leather skirt I immediately said "YES!" The flow of this asymmetrical skirt and how the fringes are placed gave this look so much drama. The black on black combination creates a very versatile skirt that can be worn in many different situations. It can be styled for office, date/brunch, and lounge/music festivals. I added this white and black ruffle off-shoulder top to keep things simple but yet detailed. Since the skirt is an eye-catcher already I wanted to keep the rest of the look very minimum so I accessorized with an all black pump and a mini-bag.
Aesthetic
Blazer/t-shirt combo is kind of a perfect balance between formals and casuals. When you want to dress up just a little bit, put on a nice blazer with your t-shirt and you’re ready to rock any place you enter. However ladies, to rock this blazer/t-shirt combo, a great execution is the key. You have to wear the right kind of t-shirt with right kind of blazer. I decided to choose a hunter green suede and black tailored blazer with a slightly fitted crew neck tee. The words on the t-shirt was really key essential. It took me a while to figure out just what bottoms to wear with this style, but I realized that a simple blazer and white tee could make this look work perfectly with a poppy pair of sequin joggers. The jogger is basically an acceptable way to wear comfortable pants all the time. Add a solid pair of pumps and your good to go.
Lazy Vibes
There’s not much better than cozying up in a big ol’ pair of sweatpants and settling in for a lazy night at home. But you don’t have to stay home to stay comfy! Sweat pants are the new jeans now and believe it or not I wasn’t headed to the gym. Somewhere between maxi season and winter weather sweat pants became a socially acceptable alternative for skinny jeans. When you pair it with the right pieces it becomes a stylish look.
There’s so many ways, and my adidas track suit was my first choice. The bright hues in my joggers set the bar and gave it so many pop of colors. My windbreaker matches perfectly with my grey trench shawl. I’m all about taking pieces that even look like pajamas to a stylish new level. To top it all off my human race adidas sneakers were the highlight of the look.
NYC Nights
We may not be going back to school, but our wardrobes certainly are. Blazers were paired with everything from step-hem jeans to bohemian floral dresses at New York Fashion Week, and I'll be wearing them through fall and winter, too. The traditionally preppy piece has been re-imagined and, trust us with this particular blazer you’ll want in. This off white blazer covered in delicate pearls made my birthday night a night to remember. Tailored perfectly to my waistline with the perfect length it definitely gave me a sexy but yet sophisticated look. The matching off white pants really added that razor sharp touch to a whole new level. Following my pointy toe sequin pumps to add those last finishing touches.
Check Mate
Jumpers are a pain for us girls to use the bathroom but I swear they are so comfy and cute – it makes up for it! What I love about this trend is that although at first sight it might seem very niche like, it’s pretty versatile. In my opinion, jumpers are great for music festivals, others for the beach, others for going out in the evening, others for casual weekends. With me, I decided to wear mines to a Sunday brunch and with white being my favorite color I couldn't go wrong. This one shoulder wide leg jumper paired perfectly with my black and white pointy toe pumps. I suggest every girl should have one in her possession.
Ms. Greene
From skinny knife pleats to wide paneled pleats, accordion folds are no longer just for preppy school girl skirts. As you can see, pleats are becoming one of my favorite closet trends and this city chic look can be yours to. Teamed with midi and maxi as well as mini hemlines and unexpected textures like leather. You can style it with baseball jackets and slouchy sweaters and tees over blazers and oxfords, I'm telling you pleated skirts no longer just scream preppy. This forest green pleated skirt looked soooo chic hanging on the rack, I just had to purchase it. I can honestly say I had a really hard time finding a blouse. I tried on countless tops four hours and finally found the perfect one. I was really looking for the perfect fit so that I was able to tuck it in and show the seam-line of my skirt. This plum puffy shouldered turtle neck definitely brought my vision to life.
blEW Era
Normally the two colors that compliment me best are orange and red but for some reason I was feeling blue... and I mean literally blue. There's no better way than to express yourself through clothes. Now this light grey sweatshirt with blue, black and white fur on the sleeves was not attractive to any of my friends at all but I just had a feeling that I could take it and make it impeccable. With fall approaching I decided to stay warm by pairing my sweater with some mid-rise contrasting jeans. Now to be completely honest, every since leggings became a thing I completely strayed away from jeans. But for some reason the light and dark denim tone placements in these were a ultimate statement piece. The accessories with this outfit definitely played a big role. The love for a short brim fedora hat with my New York frames made this look very casual but yet chic. But wait I didn't stop there, lets talk about my shoes ladies. Inspired by designer Vetements, my white booties are this seasons new trend. I was worried that white boots would skew too costume-y, but when paired with my usual bottoms and sweatshirt, the look was unexpected, but effortless.
